Reception and Year 1 (Willow Class)
Summer 2 Wilderness Explorers

This term has been a jammed pack one with lots of extra fun activities going on. We have had our wonderful school production where Willow class were excellent ‘scruffy children’, sports day, a visit to the church, a trip to the theatre and transition days.
Willow class have read some great books during this term to base their English work on but their favourite was the amazing poetry book ‘Nature Trail’ by Benjamin Zephaniahs. The children loved the illustrations and were inspired to learn and perform the poem with super actions.

In Maths this term EYFS have learnt about patterns, capacity and number bonds. Year 1 have been looking at money, time and place value to 100.

Willow class have been super creative in Art and Design and Technology this term. In Art the children have learnt how to draw various minibeasts and have learnt techniques to make fabulous creatures out of clay. In DT they have designed a lunchbox and a healthy lunch to take on an adventure into the wilderness.

In science the children have learnt about our environment: looking for the first signs of summer, how trees are changing and all about minibeasts and their habitats. They have been on identification hunts and found some ‘interesting’ creatures!
Wilderness Explorers has been a wonderful topic to end this school year. The children have had so much fun learning all about the natural environment and exploring what they might find on a nature safari. They enjoyed the Wilderness Explorers’ hut and the many bug hunts and nature safaris we went on.
