Years 2 and 3 (Ash Class)

Autumn 1 2025 – Let’s Explore… Somerby

This half-term, our topic has been “Let’s Explore… Somerby”, where we have been learning all about our local area and what makes it special.

In our Geography lessons, we have been exploring how our school and the surrounding area. We have learned about aerial photography and used this knowledge to create maps and keys of our classroom and school. We also plotted a walk to the local farm using a map of the area. We had a great time using a compass to follow our directions to get to the farm!

In our art lessons, we have been doing lots of map work too! We learned how we can use maps as inspiration for art. We drew familiar journeys, collaged 3D maps and even had a go at printing maps!

In PE, we have been learning skills to use in games of football and basketball. In football, we practised dribbling, getting behind the ball to stop it and passing to others. We had an opportunity to put our new football skills to test when we went to a football day at Mowbray Rangers FC! All the children tried their best and we were very proud of their efforts!

We have been very creative in our Design and Technology lessons this half term. We have explored how wheels move and what stops them from moving. On our visit to Alma Bank Farm we noticed lots of farm vehicles, so we have had a go at creating a model farm vehicle with moving wheels to send to Farmer Barnes.
