School Council

Welcome to our school council page!

Our school council members for 2024/25 were elected by their classmates, and our head boy and girl who are also part of the school council, presented their speeches to the whole school community and were elected by staff members.

Head girl – Amelie
Head boy – Harvey

Willow class representative – Amelia and Archie
Ash class representatives – Verity and George
Oak class representatives – Arthur and Phoebe

The remit of their role includes supporting the school in organising events, helping children pastorally, assisting adults with tasks and acting as excellent ambassadors in upholding our core vision and values.

School Council Spring and Summer Update

Our school council have continued to be fantastic ambassadors for our school and come up with great ideas to enrich the experiences of the children at Somerby.

They decided earlier in the year that it would be a good idea to have an ‘ideas box’ in each class so that people could give their feedback on what they would like to improve. However, the boxes were not really being used, which we said probably means everyone is quite happy with their school! To get some feedback, we asked the teachers to talk to their classes about what children at Somerby love about school and what they would like to improve linked to our school values of being PROUD and ASPIRATIONAL. Some of the ideas were:

  • More creative activities for Feel Good Friday
  • New equipment for playtimes
  • More school trips

Archie came up with a brilliant idea to support our ‘Eat Them to Defeat Them’ healthy eating challenge – a veg hunt! The school council hid lots of pictures of vegetables around the school playground which children could collect and exchange for a vegetable to try – it was great fun! They also helped decorate the kitchen with a super veggie display!

Something else that School Council were keen to do is support the Air Ambulance, after they did an assembly to the school. The family of one of our school council members, Arthur, organised a charity clay shoot in May, which raised over £5000! Some of the proceeds from this went to the Air Ambulance, and the rest has come to our school. We are going to plan a project to improve our outdoor space next year so watch this space!
